Kids Vs Food Challenge!

Almost two years after her very first “Miss Chu’s News” video “Snacks of Singapore”, Miss Chu returns for another bite at some strange food from around the neighbourhood. Apparently her health education teacher recently introduced the class to these hilarious Kids vs Food challenge videos and Miss Chu immediately wanted to do one of her own. Except that she gets to pick the food.

So she’s lined up 5 items that can be bought locally, but that she’s never tried because…up til now…they’ve been considered too yucky and disgusting. However, the idea of a video food challenge finally gave her the impetus to face the squeamishness head-on with an eclectic menu of duck tongue and chicken feet, cheese tea, stir-fried frog and durian for dessert.

Maybe these items are only weird if you’ve come from the UK like us; the average Singaporean probably wouldn’t bat an eyelid. But personally, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to eat any of these things so I thought she was pretty brave! Little Miss was certainly not having any of it.

Duck tongues and chicken feet

Frogs 3 ways: spicy, ginger & onion or in a porridge? Tough decisions.

Durian…the King of Fruits! Or so they say…

So here’s the video, complete with Miss Chu’s live reactions and official ratings for each food. Enjoy!

  1. Very entertaining and informative. Thank you, Miss Chu!

  2. Hello Miss Chu, 1st of all, a HUGE BRAVO for conquering this challenge. Not an easy mission to try them infront of the camera and still look so superb & graceful. Your french uncle who has stayed 3 years in Singapore took him 3 occasions before enjoying eating Durain….but smell is still a big issue 😉 so none of the other 4 items would have ever came across his mind to touch/try them. So you are our brave heroine! Keep it up
